3 DIY jobs to start this winter

Ryobi radio with DeWalt battery in room being painted

It’s winter, and the cold weather is here. But that doesn’t mean you have to lay down your tools! Get on top of your DIY jobs this winter with a little help from a Badaptor.

Tidying the garden

Over winter, we get a wide range of weather. Storms, heavy rain, and high winds can all have a detrimental effect on the state of our gardens.

Despite it being cold and wet outside, winter is still a good time to give your garden a good tidy-up. Remove all those autumn leaves that are still lying around, trim those overgrown branches and bushes, and de-weed your patios or decking.

The Ryobi One+ gardening range has a variety of tools that can help with this including leaf blowers, weed sprayers, patio cleaning tools, and various cutters and pruners. All of these can be used with a Badaptor, meaning you can use your current 18V battery to power them.

Repair damaged walls

Damaged walls are one of those jobs you never really want to deal with (we’ve all tried to cover up a dent or mark with a piece of furniture. Out of sight, out of mind!)

However, most marks and dents you can easily repair. All you need is the correct filler, a filling knife, and some sandpaper. There are several tutorials about wall repairs online. We found one of the best on the B&Q website here.

Again, Ryobi’s One+ range has you covered for tools that can aid the fixing process. You can use their random orbital sander to sand down the filler once it has dried, just be careful not to use any sandpaper that is too coarse as you could damage the wall. The One+ indoor fan is good for ventilation, helping to remove dust particles when sanding down the filler.

Fix up the bathroom

Bathrooms get used regularly, and nearly always need some kind of work or improvement.

For example, you may need to reseal your bath or shower. Sealant can degrade over time and needs to be replaced. All you need is a caulk gun and some simple waterproof sealant to fix this.

If you’ve experienced standing water in the shower, sink, or bath, this could mean you have a small blockage in your pipe. Usually, this can be easily fixed with a mix of vinegar and bicarbonate of soda. For more serious blockages, you may want to invest in a drain auger to properly clear pipes that don’t drain.

Drain augers and powered caulk guns are available in the Ryobi One+ range. The caulk gun is especially useful if you find yourself doing large jobs that need a lot of sealant.

So if you want to save yourself some money when buying a new Ryobi tool, invest in a Badaptor. You can convert 18V batteries from DeWalt, Makita, Milwaukee, Bosch Professional, Ridgid, or AEG to work with the entire range of 18V Ryobi One+ tools.
